After 3 months, on our fourth trip to the effected areas, at Bertam Baru, we were deeply moved by families still living in tents (especially an 80 year old lady!) and saw that a lot more can and need to be done. We held discussions with the villagers and elected one of them as a coordinator.
On 10th April, in 4 days our first 8-room Longhouse was built in Kampung Bertam Baru to accommodate 8 families that were still living in tents. Donated by contractors, we used recycled building material from dismantled past projects. Only the cement, rockwool, sanitary fittings and plumbing material was new. 4 toilet were built as this facility was badly in need and villagers continued the project by building a common kitchen and dining area.
